Does A Resin Surface Increase Property Value in Basingstoke?

The short answer is yes. The driveway is the first thing people see when they arrive, so having it look spectacular makes a big difference. However, sometimes the actual valuation isn't affected, but it's the beautiful driveway or patio that gets the deal over the line. Think about it, if they look at a similarly-priced house in the area and the only notable difference is the driveway, they'll sway towards that property every time.

Are Resin Driveways Environmentally Friendly?

Resin products are created mostly from recycled materials and use little to no natural resources. It is the most eco-friendly option on the market. Also, the permeable nature of the product makes it even better as it helps to avoid flooding and water run-off.

JOB PREPARATION

Most jobs need some level of preparation before applying the resin, this is where our experienced ground workers come into play. We make sure all jobs are installed in line with UK law, especially for Drainage and Permeable Surfaces. This part of the process also includes installation of edgings, and any potential extras light recessed manhole covers, lighting, drainage, etc.

RESIN BOUND

Once the site is prepared, we can get onto laying the resin bound surface. This involves very intricate timings and amounts for the mixing of the resin and aggregate. We make sure everything is planned out to the T so that mixes are installed immediately. We also over-order slightly on resin/aggregate to make sure we never run out halfway before the job is fully completed, avoiding ugly "joins".

SETTING PERIOD

How long does resin need to cure?

Resin needs a minimum of 12 hours before you can walk on it - we recommend 24 hours to stay safe.

For vehicular traffic, you want the surface to be fully cured, so we usually recommend 5–7 days depending on the weather. If in doubt, go for 7 days.

"Ricky was great in providing the quote and explaining the process. Price was very good. The two teams of workers (groundworkers and resin layers) were very informative and friendly, they were happy to answer any questions I had. Work was completed promptly despite a couple of minor delays with suppliers. Overall delighted with the job, it has transformed the front of our house."

"Transformation of driveway"

10/10

"From start to finish, a really professional and courteous service. I had lots of questions and all were answered in detail and with patience. It was more than just surfacing: digging out, porous concrete then resin. All done with care and respect to my property. I was amazed that the resin is laid by hand, on knees and with great care. My horrible gravel and concrete driveway, with a lot of wasted space, has been transformed into a beautiful one. If this is an example of how Royal Homes conduct their business, they have a great future ahead. I highly recommend them."

"From the initial visit through the quotation process to the final decision, we were offered guidance and choice without any pressured sales techniques applied. The only firm we approached (of three) that provided a detailed quotation for consideration. The site works were managed in two stages and the support comms were of an equally high standard. The delivery and site works teams were all highly competent, courteous and tidy. The finished surface is just as promised. We highly recommend the service provided by Ricky, Mark and their staff."

Frequently Asked Questions for Resin Bound Surfaces

You may find the answer to your question below, but please don't hesitate to contact us for more information.

  • What is a resin bound driveway?

A resin bound driveway is a modern and beautiful way to surface any area - drives, patios, pathways. What makes them unique is their eco-friendliness - the surface is porous and the materials are recycled. Resin is the premium option when it comes to surfacing, therefore, it is also the longest lasting and most value adding.

  • How is a resin driveway installed?

A resin driveway is installed with a 3-step system: groundworks, preparation, resin.

During the groundworks phase, the goal is to excavate to the appropriate depth, remove all waste responsibly, and assess the ground.

Onto the preparation, resin surfaces need a base + sub-base system, generally either Type 1 or Type 3 certified MOT as the sub-base and then either AC14 porous tarmac or AC32 porous tarmac as the base. This varies by the type and size of each job.

For the resin phase, very precise timing and amounts are used to mix the UV-stable polyurethane resin with the aggregates. Everything is then laid by hand in one day, the resin process cannot be interrupted because it would cause a visisble "join" in the surface. This means we are also very mindful of weather conditions - it must be above 5ºC and dry.

  • What is the difference between resin bound and resin bonded?

Resin bound and resin bonded are often mixed up, but they are not installed the same way. With resin bound, the UV-stable polyurethane resin and aggregate are mixed together before spreading. On the other hand, for resin bonded, the aggregate is "sprinkled" over a layer of resin. Resin bound leaves you with a smoother, more appealing look. Resin bonded is a tougher and less durable surface, but slightly cheaper to install.

  • Are resin driveways permeable and SUDS compliant?

If a resin surface is installed from scratch with the full base and sub-base system, it will indeed be permeable and fully SUDS compliant. However, if resin is laid on an existing surface, such as a tarmac or concrete driveway, it will not be fully permeable or SUDS compliant. Often, extra drainage is required in these scenarios.

  • How long do resin driveways last?

If a resin driveway is installed properly, it will last 20 years or more. The robust base and sub-base system is thicker and stronger than most other driveway specifications. The top layer of resin is also very strong, handling up to 7 tonnes.
